Brookland-Woodridge Committee for Schools and Parks
Take Action
There is a limited window of time to change DCPS' mind.

We expect DCPS to be locked into its current plan by the end of February.

NOW is the time to engage DCPS and our local elected officials and urge them to find a better solution for our schools and community.

Councilmember Parker is directly engaged with the community and modernization plans.

Ms. Piekara represents John Burroughs Elementary and the field.

Join us in respectfully urging DC Public Schools to find a "swing space" solution that does not require us to choose between shipping our children to Columbia Heights, or destroying our children's and the community's historic greenspace.
There are other local solutions for school modernization.
DCPS needs to communicate, convene, and work with the community, not divide us.

I am a [parent/guardian/resident of Woodridge/Brookland] and I am concerned about DC Public Schools' recent decision to build a modular complex on the Burroughs Field.

Our two neighborhood public elementary schools deserve a local swing space during modernization, but destroying the Burroughs Field until 2034 is not the solution. There are other options available.

-
I respectfully urge you to bring DCPS back to the table to find a local swing space option that does not deprive the students and residents of a vital greenspace that has been central to our community for more than 100 years.

-
DCPS' proposal to place four schools consecutively in the temporary campus until 2034 is extreme and detrimental to the health and wellbeing of the entire community.
-
The community should not have to choose between shipping neighborhood children to Columbia Heights, or destroying a vital and historic community resource.

I respectfully ask you contact DCPS as the Burroughs' ANC representative and urge the agency to find a local solution for our schools while preserving the field.
